Spooner Shield

Everyone was excited. The rain held off. The Spooner Shield was on!
Yesterday Bledisloe School hosted the Spooner Shield for the 57th year! (Wow!)
For those who don’t know Spooner Shield is an all-day tournament for Taradale area schools to compete for the Spooner Shield. The competing schools were
·      Bledisloe
·      Taradale
·      Reignier
·      Puketapu
·      Tamatea
·      Arthur Millar
·      Porritt
·      Greenmeadows

The events were
·      Rugby
·      Hockey
·      Girls soccer
·      Boys soccer
·      Year 5 netball
·      Year 6 netball
Everyone in the senior school was involved, either playing or helping.
Rugby
We were undefeated! We got 28 out of 28 points for the day, which meant we won the trophy; this is the first time in 17 years Bledisloe has won it.
It was a day full of highlights, Ethan got his first ever try for Bledisloe, Liam got an amazing runaway and Tommy scored a try right on the whistle against Greenmeadows, which secured the win.
When we won the last game and released we had won every game we erupted in cheering and chanted BLEDISLOE!
Hockey
The hockey team had an amazing day! We won 6 of our 7 games, drawing the 7th. We did not let our opposing team score any goals!  Every win gave us 4 points and the draw gave us 2, this gave us a total of 26 points out of a possible 28! This meant we won the hockey trophy, which the school has never won before.
It was exciting to find out that we had won. We were all really proud of ourselves even though we were exhausted when we got home. What a day!

 Girls Soccer
We started off the day full of energy with a positive attitude. Throughout the day we worked together better and better. Unfortunately we didn’t have a win but had plenty of draws and just a couple of loses. Amazingly some of our team then played afterschool soccer as well! It was a great day and we are looking forward to Spooner next year already.
Boys Soccer
To soccer boys had a similar day to the girls but managed to pull one win against Tamatea. A highlight for all was when Tiaki scored our only goal for the day. The whole team worked well together and we had a really good day. Hopefully next year’s team have a few more wins.

 Netball
The netballers had a challenging day filled with winning, losing and draws. They all played really well together. Nikita and Samantha both supported these teams by helping take the scores.
Helpers
The helpers were a really important part of yesterday. Some of their jobs were.
·      Taking score cards to the refs and then returning them to the office.
·      Being the official time keeper
·      Taking photos throughout the day
·      Helping with the food stall
All our helpers enjoyed their day, and were still thankful to be involved in the day.

It was an awesome day for all!
