The Indian Paper Decoration Demonstration.

'We are going to the hall to get creative' we were told.
When we got to the hall we were greeted by an Indian man named Kumar.  All he had with him was some coloured tissue paper and a pair of scissors. He wowed us straight away with his paper creations. He used no glue just the coloured tissue to create awesome flowers and decorations.
He showed us about 4 designs and then told us about a book he would have on sale tomorrow that will give step by step instructions for 15 of his designs. This will be $4.
Humo thanked him for visiting and inspiring us. We returned to class and after a quick google search found a video of Kumar making his flowers on YouTube. We then attempted to recreate some of his creation. We had mixed results and made a massive mess!
A random yet interestin afternoon.

What we've been up to since camp...

School Cross Country

Last week we had our school cross-country. Room 13 were awesome and we can proudly report that members of Room 13 won each of the four senior races.

Here are the results of the top 8 in each group.

Year 5 girls
1st Kayla     4th Micayela
Year 5 boys
1st Jack      2nd Kairon      6th Bryce     8th Nick
Year 6 girls
1st Kimberley      2nd Shirley

Year 6 boys
1st Tommy     5th Liam

The top 6 in each race will compete at the interschool competition.

Inter-School Cross Country

We all thought the race would be cancelled because it was starting to rain and was really cold, but no it was on.
We all sat on the deck getting our final instructions, no one needed to be reminded to go and get their jersey because it was so cold!
We piled into cars and were driven to Park Island. When we arrived we set up our camp area, which would be our base. As we were waiting for our race we sat together and cheered on those already running. As we were watching we felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness.
Our race was called up; we took off our jerseys and prepared ourselves for the race. Over to the start line we went, trying not to fall over already.
Ready.  Set.  BANG!
The pushes, I mean race begun.
The hardest part was trying not to slip over or be pushed over. There were just so many people it was crazy! One bonus of the coldness was that our feet were so numb we couldn’t feel the sticks and stones under or feet.
As we crossed the finish line we felt a mixture of pride and pure exhaustion. What a cool day, in more ways than won!

 Life Education
As we approached the Life Education trailer the excitement rose. Anne came out to meet us and invited us inside.
In the session we learnt about the qualities of a good friend. We talked about the difference of being friendly and a friend. We should be friendly to everyone so they are friendly back to us and it is the right thing to do. We watched a short movie about a group of girls that were having friendship issues; we didn’t see how they solved the problem
When we go back later in the week we are going to find out how they resolved the problem and also more about friendships.

UPDATE: We just got back from the life education van. Today we learnt about bulling, we learnt about what it means. This is a catchy message to help us remember.
S-several
T - times
0 - on
P- purpose
and also if you see bulling happening,
S - start
T - telling
O - other
P -people

Choir Festival

Tonight is the opening of the choir festival. Students from the Taradale schools will meet together in the Taradale Intermediate hall. All school choirs sing the same songs, that hundreds of people!

After months of practicing our singing and dancing we will perform to our parents and teachers in two shows, one tonight and one tomorrow night.

Some of the favourite songs that we have learnt are, Believe it or not by Joey Scarbury and Surfin Safari by the Beach Boys. Two Bledisloe students sing a solo for Believe it or not, and one of those people is from room 13! Go Isabelle!

A group of dancers, do a dance while the choir sings Footloose.

We are really looking forward to tonight after so many months of hard work.

We've just come back from an amazing week of adventure and learning in Wellington. Here are a few photos of our highlights.
