ANZAC Ceremony

On Monday the 14th of April, 10 children went with Mrs Bevis and Mr Papuni to an Anzac ceremony at Clive Square Memorial Garden, to place white crosses in the ground in memory of the soldiers that sacrificed their lives in World War 1.

22 schools participated in the event. Each one of us were given 1 of the 208 white crosses to place in the ground. The 208th cross was in memory of all the unknown soldiers.

The children that went from our school were: Kayla, Isabelle, Declan, Kayla CM, Te Ao, Corban, Kiki, Thomas, Eloise and Detroit.

It was very heart touching and we were all very honoured to be there. We had to hold the cross on an angle with our left hand on the top and our right hand on the bottom of the cross. Each of the crosses had a name on it in memory of that soldier. Two of the names that our school got were C Williams and G Whittle.

We had a great time, though the weather was terrible, but we figured the soldiers in the war would have to fight in rain for years on end.

Lego animation

Kairon, Anthony and Justis created this stop go animation using lego and the lego movie app. It was their first go at something like this and filled in some wet lunchtimes. Haven't they done a great job!

Cupcake Auction

Mrs Colliss made cupcakes for us to bid for, they looked so yummy!

We are bidding for some cupcakes, they were really expensive! The price went up in 10s, up and up until no one could bid anymore. People would bid over 100 bleds* for the cupcakes, some went for only 30 bleds. One of the cupcakes was sold for $136, way too expensive for me! Not everyone got a cupcake, we need to save up and hopefully next time well get one.

You could buy more than one if you had enough money.

*Bleds are our fake money at Bledisloe School. We get them for doing the right thing, we then get to spend them on really cool stuff.

Wednesday, 9 April 2014

G.A.T.E is a group of 13 amazing, talented children. From room 13, Kayla and Zoe attend. Every Wednesday we go to the Think Tank from 9:30 to 11:30. We are redeveloping the front garden so everyone can go in and on it. Lots of parents have helped, supported and encouraged us by donating and loaning us things we need. In the garden so far we have painted, placed and concreted our ginormous pencils, concreted our pavers and concreted our noughts and crosses pavers. The pencils are placed in the rainbow between two trees. They are about 1.5m tall each. In spring we are going to plant a willow tree tunnel, plus ground cover.
Next week we are doing some final touches and we will restart in spring when the weather is suitable for planting. We will post more photos when we add more to the garden.

ANZAC POEMS

As well as creating our poppy art (see previous post) we wrote some ANZAC cinquain poems.

To write them correctly the first line has one word that states the poem topic (Le Quesnoy). The second line has 5 words which each have something to do with the poem topic, the next line has 4, then 3, then 2 the last line has the main topic (ANZAC/Survivor/Soldier).

Once we had finished writing and we were happy with the poem, they were typed up and printed. We then decorated them with pencil drawings that related to the poem. We then backed them on either red or black cardboard.

They look great on the wall altogether.
