Optimist yachting!

The year 6's went optimist yachting last week. We were in groups of 3.

Day one was a good first day for sailing. The wind was in a constant direction which made learning to sail easy. Today we worked with a partner and sailed from one side to the other having turns with the third person on the bank. At the end of that day we felt confident to try again tomorrow
.
Day two, the conditions were slightly different. The wind was going north today, which made sailing similar to yesterday. Today started with the same activity as yesterday for a warm up. After that we did a block challenge which involved Mr Papuni using the motor boat to spread out wooden blocks that were lettered in the water. Groups then had to collect as many blocks as they can. Mrs Colliss choose a secret letter which would give that group a bonus point (it was unsurprisingly C). The winning team was, Liam, Pasa and Wayne. With a total of 6 blocks!
Day three, conditions were dodgy! We weren’t sure whether we would be able to go or not. Then weather down at the pond was ok so off we went. We started with the same warm up and then the block challenge. The wind started to change and pick up. So we headed back in to shore. Humo and Ethan capsized but were resilient and got it sorted and kept sailing. The winner was Isabel, because she collected the ones that had come into shore! Mr P and Mrs C decided that the conditions weren’t so good so we called it a day. We Tidied up and came back to school.

The first two days were outstanding and the third day was ok. It was a great experience and we can’t wait to do it at intermediate.
